Remember This Moment.

Remember this moment.

The one where you wanted to stop and just come home again.

The one where you didn’t want to fill out anymore applications.

The one you doubted you might be successful.

Remember this moment.

The one where you just wanted to stare out across the city and see what caught your eye.

The one where you looked at all the small lights scattered across the way in the ocean, in the headlands, in your neighborhood.

The one where you watched as people strolled by and you imagined what they might be thinking and feeling.

Remember this moment.

The one where you remind yourself that you will come back to all of this.

The one where you take the first shaky steps towards your vision again.

The one where you hesitate to get up from this bench.

It’s ok to take a break.

It’s ok to breathe.

It’s ok to wait on that step.

It’s ok to start slowly.

Just make sure you take that step.

And remember this moment.

I wrote that piece at a time when I felt lost and was about to leave home for New York again. It’s hard to always have direction on what we are doing and know that’s what we should be doing. It’s ok to be human and take a moment for yourself. My trick is closing my eyes and taking three deep breathes, whilst not focusing on anything else other than breathing. We all need to reground ourselves every once in a while before we pick ourselves back up again.
